Dr. Yang Yang is a traditionally-trained and internationally recognized Master of Taiji and Qigong, and is the founder of the Center for Taiji and Qigong Studies.Now living and practicing in New York City, he is an instructor and adjunct faculty in Kinesiology at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.His research has focused on the efficacy of Taiji and qigong practice.He is the author of the highly-acclaimed book, "Taijiquan: The Art of Nurturing, the Science of Power."In 2006, Dr. Yang was honored as "Qigong Master of the Year" at the 9th World Congress on Qigong and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
During the weekend of Oct. 19th - 21st, 2012, Asian Arts hosted workshops with Master Yang Yang and his sister, Ms.Yang Ying. This event included workshops on Qi Gong, Tai Chi and Push Hands. Evidence-Based Taiji and Qigong: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Times
Taiji and Qigong are increasingly being recognized as a way to improve strength, balance, cardiovascular and immune functioning, and cognition, as well as a person’s generalhealth and wellness.In his first visit to the Capital District, Dr. Yang Yang, an internationally-renowned Taiji and Qigong master, will provide a broad framework for Taiji and Qigong principles and practices using his Evidence-Based Taiji and Qigong program.As part of the workshop, he will focus on specific practices for insomnia and pain management, as well as on increasing core strength and vitality.
Lecture and Reception: Friday, March 25, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Join us in welcoming Dr. Yang to Albany.He will present a short lecture on Taiji and Qigong principles and will teach simple, effective exercises for insomnia and strengthening the immune system.The lecture will be followed by refreshments, at which time Dr. Yang will be signing his book, Taijiquan: The Art of Nurturing, The Science of Power.
Workshop: Saturday, March 26 Morning Program: 9:00 - 12:00:Taiji and Qigong for Neck, Shoulder and Back Pain The focus of the morning session will be on standing, sitting and lying down Qigong and Taiji silk reeling practices, with a special focus on managing neck, shoulder and back pain.(Please bring a mat or thick towel for the sitting and lying down qigong practices.)
Afternoon Program: 1:30 - 4:30:Taiji and Qigong for Balance, Strength and Vitality
The focus of the afternoon session will be on Taiji and Qigong practices that will improve core strength and stability.The fundamentals of pushing hands practice will be introduced to demonstrate how to improve balance, vitality and dynamic relaxation
No prior knowledge of Taiji or Qigong is required for this workshop.
Workshop Pricing: $120 for the day, or $65 for either the morning or afternoon session. There is no charge the evening of the lecture and reception.Space is limited, so please register early.
